The Cherry Blossoms Are Here
Minneapolis, MN – April 23, 2016 – Having just got my new macro lens, I was itching to test it out whenever I could. To my luck, the cherry tree in our front yard had coincidentally just begun to blossom. But shooting this turned out to be boring. Yes, it was cool that I could render these less than dime-sized flowers in super-high detail, but I’ve taken tons of pictures pictures of like that. “How could I make these stand out?” I asked myself, and that’s when I noticed the bees. The realization reminded me of my mentor, Mike Zerby, a legendary photojournalist that, whenever he evaluated the work of his students, always checked for those little elements that bridged the gap between spectacle and story.
