Urban Blizzard

Minneapolis, MN – February 20, 2014 – It was late. My Russian class had just gotten out and I had to make my way over to the opposite side of the East Bank to catch a bus home. I didn’t want to dilly-dally too long, but when I saw this huge snowstorm blowing huge gusts of freezing wind and snow, I needed to get a shot. Unlike the exposure in this photo, I could barely see more than ten feet in front of me. The conditions were so strong that I couldn’t keep my face, hands, or camera exposed for too long without damaging all three. This shot was both risky and lucky for me but I’m glad I caught it.
On my way home, the storm became so strong that my bus driver had to delay his route to scrape ice off his rear-view mirrors at the Uptown Station. Photos by Louis Fine.
